Treadmills and rowers: check belt, rail and running costs

Size and subscriptions decide most of these purchases. Reviewed called the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 the best treadmill it has tested, with a 20 x 60 in belt and a -3% to 12% incline, but iFit renews at $39 a month after its 30-day trial. The MERACH has a shorter 47 in belt and an 18% incline, and we found no independent test of it. For rowers, Garage Gym Reviews recommends the Sunny SF-RW5801 as a starter machine and also notes its 43 in rail is short for taller rowers; a full-size rail is 50 to 56 in.

What to check before you buy:

Check the belt length or rail length against your height and stride, add up any subscription cost, and read the warranty terms before you choose a spot. Garage Gym Reviews says the NordicTrack warranty is voided if the treadmill is used or stored in a garage.
