Robot mowers need open sky, and skimmers only clean the surface
In Reviewed's and Gadget Review's reports on the Segway Navimow i105N and Anthbot M9, both wire-free mowers need an antenna or RTK station with a clear view of the sky, and both leave some grass along walls and beds. The Navimow is rated for about 1/8 acre (500 m2) and the M9 for about a quarter acre (1,000 m2). For pools, Bob Vila tested seven solar skimmers and ranked the Betta SE Plus best overall and the Beatbot iSkim the best premium option; neither cleans the pool floor.
Measure your lawn and your steepest slope, and find a spot with open sky for the antenna before you buy a mower. For a pool skimmer, decide whether you want a simple remote or an app, and check how much sun the pool gets.

Do wire-free robot mowers need a clear view of the sky?
Yes. Gadget Review says the M9's RTK station needs real line of sky, and Reviewed's tester said the Navimow needs a staked antenna. A blocked sky can stop them or throw off the map.
Do robot pool skimmers clean the pool floor?
No. The Betta SE Plus and Beatbot iSkim clean only the water surface. Tom's Guide says a skimmer means the floor robot comes out less often, not never.
